George Michael of Wham is Dead at 53
CNN just reporting news breaking that singer George Michael is dead at 53. A statement from his publicist said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.” He passed on Sunday, Christmas Day, at his home in Oxfordshire, England. “The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage,” the statement said.
Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, otherwise known as George Michael, had started the band Wham back in the 80’s and shot to fame quickly with hits like Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and Careless Whisper. He was an English singer, songwriter, and record producer.
George went solo with his 1987 debut album “Faith,” which went on to sell more than 10 million copies. He came out as gay in 1998 with CNN. “This is as good of a time as any,” he told CNN’s Jim Moret then. “I want to say that I have no problem with people knowing that I’m in a relationship with a man right now. I have not been in a relationship with a woman for almost 10 years.”

A few websites are updating that his death was caused by heart failure. CNN reported that: In a statement, Thames Valley Police said: “At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.” The agency said police were called to a property in Goring-on-Thames shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday and confirmed the death of a 53 year-old man at the scene.
