Commercials are the most original form of advertising in marketing, after radio ads. And when you think about it, you have to realize the absolute genius that these marketing firms have to come up with; Jingles. Humor. Heart wrenching stuff like the God awful ASPCA commercials. All just to make new products/services stay at top of mind when it comes to the average everyday Joe…
Seriously, think about it. Depending on how old you are, can you remember the jingles of some of your favorite cereals? I’ll bet you can remember many! Your favorite soaps? Deodorants? Hot dogs? here you are, how many years later(for me it’s 50) and you can STILL remember the words to jingles for your favorite things from when you were a kid.
Saturday morning cartoons? Commercials every 10 minutes. “Oh, I wish I had an Oscar Meyer Weiner!” or “Frosted lucky charms, they’re magically delicious!” And, oh my God, Prince Spaghetti day! The list goes on and on. Let’s not forget “Plop plop, fizz fizz, Oh what a relief it is…”
It was then, and is now, utter genius! Whether it was play on words, or a catchy tune on a jingle, it has stuck in my head for 50 freaking years! Which brings me to…
Super Bowl Commercials!
I was working for part of the game, so I missed some of the best ones, I’m sure. I’m not a super huge football fan, but the commercials are my favorite part of the Super Bowl! Some of the greatest stars come out to advertise for local companies, and some of them are absolutely hilarious! This year, one of my favorites was the Jason Momoa Rocket Mortgage commercial, check it out:
Then there were the movie trailers for Fast and Furious 9, the new Minions/Gru movie, as well as a few others. Then another great one was the J-Lo commercial for the Hard Rock Hotel. DJ Khaled, A Rod, Little Steven, Pitbull, off the chains, baby! Check it out:
But ironically, one commercial that I found off the hook funny that I’m not sure if it was in the super bowl hours or not is the doctor squatch commercial. Can’t say I’ve ever heard anybody talk about “marinating their man meat” in a commercial, lol! Check it out:
Anyway, again, advertising products in a way that you will never forget, and the humor-based ones are really the best. If there’s no jingle, the humor is what you will remember. Again, pure genius…. Humor for the win!
