You Do You???

So I just had this absolutely positively tremendous bitch slap upside the head, lol! And in more ways than one…

So I had a little bit of a suck morning. I had a gripe session with a  competing co-worker which turns into a sit down with a mediator more or less. AND I had the guy dead to rights. I knew it, the mediator knew it. In a huff, the guy leaves because he didn’t get his way, he didn’t get what he wanted. So, this didn’t sit well with him.

Now I have to tell you, this whole ordeal has really, truly bothered me. This is a person that I respected, actually considered to be a friend. But I have now realized that greed knows no bounds, and it doesn’t matter who it is. And that’s fine, a little older and a whole lot wiser. It just sucks that you think when you treat people a certain way that they will grace you with the same. Apparently such is not the case. Screw the New year’s resolution bullshit, I’m doing no harm but taking no shit in 2020. Too many people mistaking my kindness for weakness, that bullshit’s going to stop. I will be removing a ton of people, and thusly a ton of negativity from my life to ring in MY new year! Ain’t nobody got time for that! But, I must digress…

So at this point, I’m doing a lot of soul-searching and hearing my buddy Fran’s favorite saying in the back of my head, “Don’t worry, mama, you do you!” All of a sudden, the realization hits me. Now stay with me here…

Cartoon cop pointing to anyone, saying, "You, Sir, are an asshole!
“You, Sir, are an asshole!”

There’s an old saying that you can say something really nasty to somebody, and as long as you laugh when you say it, they can’t tell whether or not you’re serious when you’re saying it. Think about this. Looking at somebody and yelling at them, “You’re an asshole!” as opposed to looking at them and laughing and smiling and saying it, like, “Hahaha, you’re an asshole, lol!” Nine times out of ten, you’ll get away with it.

So, back to Fran’s comment. Fran has always said, “You do you,” when somebody screws you over and you look at her and say, “Is it just me?” She says it, meaning, you just do what you always do; don’t let that person change you. Well guess what?

I hear this old song come on the radio, the title of the song being “Do me,” by Bel Biv Devoe. Well, we all know what the term “do me” means, right? Screw me, blow me, you get the idea. Well you know what? I think “You do you” is going to become my new favorite saying for 2020! Not “you do you” as in, “Do your thing, screw what everybody else thinks.”  I mean, “You do you” as in, “You go screw yourself!”  Because that way, when I say it to somebody, they take it as, “Yeah okay, I get it, that’s the way you’re going to be.” But the way it should be taken from me is, “Go screw yourself!” And it won’t matter what tone you say it to them in, either! OMG! They may not know that I meant it that way, and they may THINK they got over on me, but at least, in my mind, I will have gotten the last word. And I’m cool with that!

Didn’t believe me about the song? Yep, it’s a real song, lol! Click below for Do Me by Bel Biv Devoe!
